Hello,

I am not able to decode audio of MPEG-2 PES (Program Elementary Stream) HTTP stream with VLC.

The PES is taken from satellite and is composed of a video PID and a audio PID. Video is in MPEG-2 format and audio in MPEG 1/2 Layer 2.

The video is correctly decoded but I have not been able to decode the audio. I tried to force the audio decoder but whithout success.

Is VLC able to decode MPEG Layer 2 audio ? how to force the audio decoder ?

Everything work when decoding with mplayer....

Help !

Thank you.

Mathias

The problem was already discussed here.

But the developers don't react! It's a great pity.

MPEG 2 PES is not a valid MPEG 2 container format. The format does not allow for proper audio video synchronization between the a/v streams. It should only be used for storage of seperate streams.
We just CANNOT support PES. Use either PS or TS. I have tested both these streams with the development build of VLC, and it worked just fine for me.
