double sided dvd

I have a double sided new dvd (the ones you turn over 1/2 way), it plays fine with PowerDVD on Windows but not linux, but side 1 will not get past the root menu on vlc, I use linux most the time, but have tested it on windows and get the same sort of message.
I have made a image with no problems with dvdisaster and am now working with that as is gives the same output.
dvdnav demux warning: cannot get next block (Expected NAV packet but none found.)
I am a bit lost on the next step.
I have move .dvdcss and other dvd's play no problem, I would think it was a disk problem but it plays ok on PowerDVD and not VLC.
I am using VLC media player 1.0.2 Goldeneye on ubuntu x86_64, and windows xp on 32bit.
I love VLC and really would like to get this to work, any ideas?

Try to deactive menus when opening the DVD.

I did try without menus by clicking the "no DVD menus", then it just quits with the same error
then:
Code: Select all
cvlc -vv --no-dvdnav-menu dvd:///dev/sr0
gives again:
dvdnav demux warning: cannot get next block (Expected NAV packet but none found.)
Is the another way to Try to deactive menus when opening the DVD?
when it works under windows the film just starts without any menus! but the menus do work under window dvd programs.
I have the same with all the linux totem gives:
Failed to read next DVD block. Error: Expected NAV packet but none found.
Is this a problem with dvdnav and some new! form of copy protection?
Its not even a new film:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107798/ and they bother putting it on 2 sides! marked in small text at the bottom of the box.
If any one can help, it would be great

I have done some more testing under windows everything I have tried except vlc works!
Windows Vista Home basic service pack 1 32-bit Operating system.
(not so sure of that 32-bit under windows and 64 under linux on the same machine, but hay you get what you payfor!)
windows media player no problems, title 1 chapter one start off point again it starts the film straight off, although you can access the root menu after, I wish vlc would do that as default. anyway no problem with m$ what a pity...
Acer Arcade Deluxe! no problems same as above.
VLC.exe ...
dvdnav warning: cannot get next block (Expected NAV packet but none found.)
main debug: finished input
main debug: dying input
main debug: Program doesn't contain anymore ES
main debug: removing module "dvdnav"
etc...
Still that nav problem?
![Twisted Evil ](./images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif)
I think the is a problem accessing the title:
Code: Select all
vlc -vv --extraintf logger --logfile log-`date +%s`.txt dvd:///dev/sr0@1:1
gives the same error! darn...

Instead try:
Where MEDIA is the DVD location etc.

Still no joy. but a different error!
If I run it with -vv vlc goes into a loop:

Hi all I am still having a problem with this for the last few months, and still at a bit of a loss, could it have something to do with ARccOS?

Well I got a vob file to play with
![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
:
Code: Select all
cvlc -v file:///media/iso/video_ts/vts_01_4.vob
But it looks like vlc is not using css, sound is broken and video scrambled.
Anyone know if you can de-css one file?
I don't know if I am going anywhere but it feels like progress!

I have tried this before, but here it is again, it gets me as far as the menu but cvlc crashes as soon as I try to play the film with the error below, with the dvdnav error?
It does not crash but plays scrambled with cvlc -v file:///media/iso/video_ts/vts_01_4.vob?
As I said it will play on M$ but not in vlc! but linux nothing will play it yet!
I am stuck on this one, please any help would be good?

Only thing I can think of is that libdvdcss just isn't working properly. What OS are you using (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32-bit?). Have you tried doing a resinstall/upgrade (with --purge) of VLC/libdvdcss2?
Arite.

I have tried 2 windows XP32bit and Vista, and Unbuntu 10.4 64bit on 2 different computers!
So I don't think it can be a installation problem, but on the proprietary windows DVD players it will play! and not on vlc under windows, and nothing in linux?
Maybe the are some tools to look at the encryption or something.... I am lost on this one?
