Help playing mms:// stream requiring authentication

A few days ago I posted a thread on the Ubuntu forums about playing a mms:// stream from my university requiring authentication (username and password). Someone wisely pointed out that it may be a better idea to post here. I'll point back to it so that I don't have to repost details again.

I'm able to play the streams in Windows Media player, but not using VLC under either Linux or Windows.

Does anyone have any experience getting this type of stream to play? Let me know if any additional information I could provide might be helpful.

VLC does not implement authenticated MMS streams at the moment.

I would like to find out if there are currently any plans to provide this feature. Any serious roadblocks preventing the implementation of user authentication for mms streams?

From this bug report (http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/3134), it is stated: Resolution set to wontfix?
Does that mean that we will never get this in VLC?
