H.264 decoder part of ffmpeg

Hello!
When VLC decode H.264 streaming,it utilizes the decoder part of ffmpeg,like libavcodec.a libavformat.a,etc. Can I obtain the source code of libavcodec .a ? And How ?
Are they the version which ffmpeg workgroup release or the version optimized ?
