Unable to register VLC Webplugin events in Firefox

I am using the latest VLC webplugin (1.0.2 Goldeneye) in a web page I am developing which uses the dojo framework.
I am trying to register the events so that I can add my own progress bar etc.. based on how far through the video we have got. I've tried everything, but am unable to pick up on ANY of the events being fired.
I have tried the example on the wiki page, registering a callback for every function and trying to write out to the console, but nothing is happening.
Any ideas anyone? Banging my head against a wall here!
