"Copying" video on OSX

I am on Mac OSX 10.3 and I am viewing an Mpg (possibly in PAL format but not sure) which I downloaded from a Bittorrent server and i would like to "highlight" and "Copy" it in order to "paste" it onto iMovie to turn it into a DVD. However, I do not seem to be able to do this when the video is playing. It works fine otherwise.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

that's not possible.
if quicktime can read it, you can just import the file into iMovie.
if not, you need to convert it to another format, first.
you can do this with vlc too.. see the advanced output option.
