Media Library/Playlist Sorting Options

I would like to start by saying that i love VLC. It is the only videoplayer that can play just about all of my files. Since its such a great player, I decided to start building my video library within the VLC Media Library.

I was wondering if there is a way to sort your media library/playlist by genre or year rather than name or artist?

VLC gives you the option to edit the metadata but i cant seem to find a way to sort by the extra categories. I cant find a way to add any of this information to the playlist window either, which i thought was odd since most players such as itunes display this information. I would like to be able to sort my video files so that i can see everything from the horror genre etc...

I'm not sure if it matters or not but I'm also on a mac.

Almost a year has gone and, still, no sorting by year in the playlist...
Nor a words from VLC team about this. Why?!!

Sorting music by the year is a nice opportunity to listen to different music of the same era easily, in a few clicks...
Why user suffer because of this?
Because of noncommercial, open source software?
I don't believe that!

Is there is someone on Linux machine here?
Do you have "by year" sorting in a playlist?
Why i think the answer will be NO?

Dear VLC Team!
Please, implement this little GUI tweak for us, lovely users!
Thanks for all your hard work!

The answer will be no because nobody is paid to work on VLC so there is a severe shortage of development time.

Good things come to those who wait.
There is no better service than one's own.
