Mouse cursor flicker and other issues while saving screen://

Postby heycam » 04 Mar 2010 05:30

Hi.

I'm looking at using vlc to capture the screen to a file. The screen captures will be a couple of hours long. I have a couple of questions.

1. I found with some initial testing that while streaming screen:// to a file, the mouse cursor flickers. Is there any way to avoid the flicker? This will be a recording of a usability study so it is important that the participants are not distracted by this.

2. When saving the video as Theora and say 2fps, the resulting video when played back is much faster than real time. Should vlc be noting the fps in the file somehow, or is there a way to overcome this problem?

3. I want to record audio as well. I've search through a few threads here, and some were saying that it is not possible while others mentioned some arcane command lines (that I guess I should read up on!). Can anyone say definitively whether it is possible yet to record the video and audio from the screen and microphone to the one file? If not, then I guess I can have record the audio separately and then mux the files together later. Can vlc dump just audio from the microphone to a file if I need to go this route?

Thanks!

Cameron
