Can VLC play blue ray DVD?

Hi, my PC is equipped with a blue ray player and the software that came with it (powerDVD) just won't work for blue ray.

Can VLC play blue ray DVD? I gave it a try but couldn't make it work. I've read somewhere it is supposed to but the "open a disc" option didn't work. Is it only to play ripped blue ray files? Or maybe I have to link to a specific file on the DVD?

Any help is appreciated, I'm definitly not buying a 1 year subscription just for a software to play blue ray ;)

Not yet, for now VLC can't deal with the structure and the menus of a BD, not to mention the encryption.

Actually yes.
