Error with Deleting Preferences while Upgrading

Postby MichaelTun » 19 Feb 2010 18:41

I noticed this a while ago and sorry for not reporting this before but there seems to be a problem with Deleting Preferences when upgrading to any version of VLC.

The issue isn't the function itself it is more a problem with the default settings of the options when installing the upgrade.

When you run the upgrade it has to do the uninstall first and it asks me if I want to Delete my Preferences. The box is unchecked by default as it should be which is great.

However, when you go to install the new version the "Delete Preferences" options is there again but it is checked by default and hidden at the bottom of the options making it so most people tend to delete their preferences without meaning to.

Note* - It is unchecked in the screenshot because I unchecked it...didn't realize I made the screenshot like that but I don't have time to fix it right now.

Well, yes, that is normal.
We can't know from what version people are upgrading.

If you don't like that this is too low in the dialog, please help us fixing the installer script.

what does that have to do with anything? it is just concerning preferences. the second dialog should have it unchecked by default is all I am saying.

No, because if people are upgrading from 0.8.x to 1.0.x, they need to reset their preferences.
And as the uninstaller and the installer are 2 different programs, we cannot know the installed version. Therefore, it is default to checked.

There are work-around, but you need to code a bit on the Windows Installer. It should be doable, but could take quite some time.

I understand...not really worth it I guess.

I noticed something else though.
