Setup player size

Postby Kennin » 14 Feb 2010 19:38

When I am watching a dvd, and I resize the window by dragging the corner, every time a new chapter starts, the size gets reset. Very annoying.
How do I setup the default size of the viewer so that doesn't happen anymore?

This can be done in the Preferences.
  1. Go to "Tools >> Preferences".
  2. Select "All" for "Show settings" and click on "Video" tree section.
  3. Scroll down and under the "Window properties" section set the "Video width" and "Video height" accordingly.
  4. Press "Save" and a try a video.
Cheers, Arite.

Hi there!
Tried that now, didn't work at all. The same problem persists.
Besides, why can't I just drag the window in a fashion that I want it to be at that very specific moment and just know it will stay that way?
I mean... the fixed pixel size would be an temporary okay workaround, *IF* it would work, which it does not, but it would not be a solution either.

OK, well setting the video width and height worked as described for me.

However, if you instead want to be able to resize it manually like you described you can instead do the following. First set the "Video width" and "Video height" values back to "-1". Then, in the Preferences with "Show settings" set to "All", go to:
Interface >> Main interfaces >> Qt

And untick "Resize interface to the native video size". Restart VLC and then try a video. Scale the window to your desired size, and then open another video and it should stay the same size. VLC should remember the size next to you open it too.

Cheers, Arite.
