DSS + Seeking: Should this work?

Hello,

I've been trying to get this to work for most of yesterday, so before I continue on I was wondering whether a kind soul out there would know for certain that this has a chance of working. I found a number of posts about these issues, but no conclusion as to whether it eventually worked out.

The setup is pretty simple: I'm using VLC to access an RTSP stream served by Darwin Streaming Server from an MP4 file.

Playback is flawless; but seeking doesn't really seem to work. Most of the time VLC gets stuck while re-buffering. In other cases the video plays for a few seconds from the new position but then gets stuck on messages such as 'more than 5 seconds of late video'. Also, in a lot of cases, the seek bar indicator is stuck to the left hand side.

The server does provide an SDP description with a valid a=range line and it does carry on streaming content.

Is there anyone out there who has this kind of setup working? If you could holler, it would be a very good motivation to keep looking into this. :-)

Thanks!

Hello once again,

I should indeed have included these things in my original post...

On the client-side I tried VLC versions 1.0.2 and 1.0.5 on Mac OS X (Snow Leopard) and version 1.0.3 on Windows (Vista). They are the pre-built versions available via the VLC website; I'm not really sure how I can determine the version of live555 that was built into them.

On the server-side I tried a stock DSS 5.5.5 and DSS 6.0.3 (with a few community patches applied; necessary for building). These are installed on an Ubuntu linux machine.
