I got this for my channels.conf

Code: Select all

OMNI-DT:509000000:8VSB:481:482:1 Global-DT:521000000:8VSB:49:52:1 CTV-DT:587000000:8VSB:33:36:2 KVOS-DT:599000000:8VSB:1937:1940:121 CBC-HD:737000000:8VSB:129:132:8
using

Code: Select all

vlc -vvv channels.conf
worx great, select channels from playlist etc.

how do I run it from the command line w/o using a channels.conf,
or

using Open Media -> Capture Device -> DVB
I put in Transponder/multiplex freq of 521000 and still no go

Code: Select all

vlc -vvv dvb://frequency=521000000

everything I've tried results in the following

Code: Select all

[0x1950e58] main stream debug: pre buffering [0x1939fd8] dvb access debug: frontend has acquired signal [0x1939fd8] dvb access debug: frontend has acquired carrier [0x1939fd8] dvb access debug: frontend has acquired stable FEC [0x1939fd8] dvb access debug: frontend has acquired sync [0x1939fd8] dvb access debug: frontend has acquired lock [0x1939fd8] dvb access debug: - Bit error rate: 0 [0x1939fd8] dvb access debug: - Signal strength: 240 [0x1939fd8] dvb access debug: - SNR: 240

when it works i see

Code: Select all

[0x2bf8e88] main stream debug: pre buffering [0x2bf8e88] main stream debug: received first data after 397 ms [0x2bf8e88] main stream debug: prebuffering done 188 bytes in 0s - 0 kbytes/s [0x2bf8918] main stream debug: looking for stream_filter module: 4 candidates [0x2bf8918] main stream debug: TIMER module_need() : 0.141 ms - Total 0.141 ms / 1 intvls (Avg 0.141 ms) [0x2bf8918] main stream debug: looking for stream_filter module: 1 candidate [0x2bf8918] main stream debug: using stream_filter module "stream_filter_record" [0x2bf8918] main stream debug: TIMER module_need() : 0.053 ms - Total 0.053 ms / 1 intvls (Avg 0.053 ms) [0x19b6ed8] main input debug: creating demux: access='dvb' demux='' path='' [0x2bf8a58] main demux debug: looking for demux module: 51 candidates [0x1b7f6a8] dvb access debug: frontend has acquired signal [0x1b7f6a8] dvb access debug: frontend has acquired carrier [0x1b7f6a8] dvb access debug: frontend has acquired stable FEC [0x1b7f6a8] dvb access debug: frontend has acquired sync [0x1b7f6a8] dvb access debug: frontend has acquired lock [0x1b7f6a8] dvb access debug: - Bit error rate: 0 [0x1b7f6a8] dvb access debug: - Signal strength: 250 [0x1b7f6a8] dvb access debug: - SNR: 250

I believe this is a generic question but I am running ubuntu 9.10

You need to specify dvbt:// for DVB-T and the value of the bandwidth:

Code: Select all

vlc dvbt:// :dvb-frequency=521000000 :dvb-bandwidth=8

In the error window I see
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvbt://'. Check the log for details.

FYI: VLC media player 1.0.2 Goldeneye from ubuntu 9.10 64bit

Going to check and see if there's a compiler option or somthing, even though it can play DVB-T if I use the channels.conf file.
Maybe this is a command line interface nicety that it wasn't compiled with. I have no DVB-C or DVB-S to test with.

Try

Code: Select all

vlc dvb-t:// :dvb-frequency=521000000 :dvb-bandwidth=8

So I downloaded the source and compiled it.

Unsure why it works but it does.

Because you are located in an area which is using ATSC and not DVB(-T). I guess nothern America :)

Yup :) I'm in Vancouver B.C. and with v0.9.10 of vlc I can now record Olympics in high def ATSC while I sit at work. w00ts.
Unsure where I'm going to put this stuff, the .ts files for an hour are about 3.5 gigs :P
Comes in in h264 (1920x1080) and mp4a ( I think ) I still can't believe this little usb2 dongle can decode the stream that fast.

In fact your USB stick is only a tuner, it's VLC which is decoding the stream.
I'd wish to have a (short) sample from this broadcast as I don't have any H264/ATSC samples. Maybe one from today's downhill men ? :)
