.ogm Length Error

Hello there,
I recently found out something really weird when using vlc to view ogm video files. I don't really know if it's just my problem but when I play these files the vlc player shows a really extraordinary (
) video length. For example, when i play a file of 21min 34sec vlc shows a length of 2hours 13 min 0sec!!!
I haven't noticed that happening at any other kind of files. I am using WinXP Pro SP2 with a P4 2,8GHz, 512Mb DDR RAM, Randeon 8500 graphics card, 2 hard drives (40GB & 120GB)

I have problems with the length of every video file I have tried; xvid, mpeg1, mpeg2 etc. The player just shows wrong length and it's always about 40% smaller of the exact length.
I'm using VLC on winXP with SP2. And I have also tried the latest nightly build.
same here

same problem here. Only happens for ogm files tho. I tried to convert the ogm file to mkv , which shows up the correct length.
I do need ogm tho. any fix for this problem ?

I get the same type of error, and skipping forward/back with the +10 sec or +1 minute, it just goes back to the beginning of the file.
I love vlc, and I'll live with this if I have to, but it seems like a simple thing? Thanks

some time issues have been fixed recently. Could you try a nightly build and tell us if that works better? (

Just got last night's build, (vlc-win32-200504060324). On a ogm file, its still saying the length is much longer (~21 minute file being reported as 5:04:38). Skipping forward and backward in the file doesn't work at all? It freezes up for a second, nothing else.
Windows XP, SP2. Pentium 4 3.2 HT, 1gb RAM.
Hope this helps?

ive always had the same problem here, i always assumed it had to do w/ the vbr length problem i read about, but since someone mentioned it working fine converted to mkv...
the only examples i have on hand i just checked were in dx50/vorbis and xvid/vorbis, if that helps.
for me, skipping 10sec and 1min or 5 minutes makes it jump to the beginning where, ratio-wise, it seems to be where it would be if it really was this bloated length (for example, 24 min file listed as 1:57, jumping 5 minutes makes it jump to 2:29-ish.) i assume it can't jump around because it doesnt know how much 10 seconds is.
on the xvid/vorbis combo, no duration is even given. and therefore "jumping" simply goes to the very beginning.
and yes, it works perfectly well with mkv files with the same codec combos.
hope a fix is found... i love my current setup using a gamepad to control my "media" box but a big part of what makes it work is the ability to jump in increments of 10sec/1min/5min easily.
im curious as to whether there's a way to manually enter a duration as a temporary fix...

OGM != Matroska MKV
OGM is a sucky wanna be format, MKV is a proper movie format that supports all elements of any video.

im aware that ogm!=mkv, i was referring to the fact that i assumed it was a problem having to do with the stuff contained inside that made it have an incorrect length, then i saw the bit "I tried to convert the ogm file to mkv , which shows up the correct length" and realized it was ogm itself. if it were up to me i'd prefer mkv to begin with but the fact remains a lot of ppl use ogm *shrug*
