Cannot play my new APE files

hi. i downloaded some new APE files last night and they won't play in VLC player. it's strange cause I can play some older APE files i had on my hard drive prior to last night. When i open up the APE files i just downloaded it loads the file name in the player and then stops. Are these bad APE files or is it a bug in VLC player? i downloaded the latest version of VLC a couple of days ago. i reinstalled it this morning to see if that works but still the APE files i just got won't play. I'd rather play these APE files in VLC than my other player MediaMonkey cause of the fact that i can play them in 400% volume level that MediaMonkey doesn't seem to be able to do. can anyone help me?

thanks!

hello

sorry for taking so long in replying. i had computer troubles for a while. But they're taken care of now. Anyway I am still having trouble playing those ape files i downloaded. the encoder version for the files are v3.99 (with Insane compression and contains CRC). I have vlc player v1.05 (Goldeneye) for Windows. I seem to have the latest version of APE on my computer but i'm not sure. i can however play this file on Windows Media Player, MediaMonkey, and Media Player Classic. but it just refuses to play on VLC.

any ideas? thanks in advance.
