VLC Remote - allowing MAC addresses?

Hi,

I've searched the boards briefly but couldn't find the answer I was looking for, hence this new topic was made. Hopefully someone can help me. My problem:

I've recently got the paid version of VLC Remote (for Iphone), and so far it works great. There's just one problem - and that's security. I get my IP address through my ISP's DHCP (dynamic address) which means it may basically change anytime I connect to my WLAN, and it is not a local address. Hence I've got to allow 'all' IP addresses to connect remotely to my VLC (and thus allowing them to browse my computer folders) in order for this app to work, and as you can understand that is a major security problem in case I happen to have a neighbor that also has an Iphone (for instance).

This leads me to my question: Is there anyway to only allow a specific MAC-address to connect remotely to VLC and exclude all other connections, or is the .hosts file completely based on IP-addresses?

I hope you'll bring me a good answer!

Thank you

So far, it is only IP- based. Sorry.

Thank you for your fast reply. I look forward to seeing this feature implemented sometime in the future. :)

VLC does not know the incoming MAC addresses anyway. Those are hidden by the ARP layer inside the operating system.

If you want to filter IP services based on MAC addresses, you need to use a firewall.
