S/PDIF Stereo output?

I do not get any output through s/pdif in stereo mode, only a/52 or ac3.
Why does not VLC have the ability to put all audio out through s/pdif?
I have tried preferences->Use the s/pdif audio output when available. Also I've put s/pdif output on my audio card.

Other players can put out stereo (LPCM) through s/pdif.

OS: Windows xp with sp2.
VLC Version: 0.82 beta.
