lost video file

alright, this is a really strange question (i think) I was on a plane watching a video I downloaded first I was going to play it on DivX, but it wouldn't, so I choose to open/watch it on VLC plaer. I played fine. I watched about half of it and the plane began it's decent and I stopped the playback and shut the computer down. When I looked for the video later on to finish watching it, I lost it!

I mean I literally can't find the file?

the closest thing is when I search Windows vista and what used the be the video and the message saying the shortcut has been changed or moved and asks me if I want to delete the shortcut. To which I answer no.

but where the heck did it go? I didn't erase or move anything! I just did exactly what I described above.

any suggestions would be great.
