converting .avi file

converting .avi file

My question is i have a .avi file that i would like to be able to view on my dvd player it works great on my VLC media player (thanks team VLC),
however when i burned it do a dvd cd my DVD player doesnt recognize the .avi file, how can i use VLC to solve my problem??

AVI is not a video format but a container. What your DVD player can't deal with is the video codec used inside this AVI container. DVD players usually have no problems with MPEG4-ASP format which is used by the popular Xvid and Divx codecs.

VLC might not be the easiest way to convert your file. You may want to try AviDemux for doing the conversion.
