Snapshot - PNG to JPEG

I am new to this forum and VLC. I have been doing some snapshots this morning and want to edit them however they are PNG and when I try to edit through my normal Windows package it won't allow me. Is there a way to change the setting on VLC to snapshot to JPEG?

Tools -> Preferences -> Video -> Video snapshot format
