I am using VLC media player version 1.0.3 for Windows Vista and Linux Kubuntu 9.10. In both operating systems VLC crops the MP4 file during playback, VLC codec details shows codec is mp4v, and display resolution is 320x240 and resolution is 640x480. VLC does not play the file according to its true resolution of 640x480 and the video gets cropped and only displays the upper left corner of the video image. When using Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Zune the file plays at 640x480 and there is no cropping problem. When the file is converted to avi format it plays at 640x480 in VLC and no problem. There appears to be a problem with VLC processing the mp4v codec.
