What version of VLC made it to where you could just click on the forward button and change the speed of the song (including pitch)?
I really liked messing around with that and it has seemed that it was taken out in the latest few versions..

No, 1.0.0 had audio-time-stretching enabled as default, so when you accelerate, it keeps the pitch.
If you want to have "high pitch", then deactivate the option
