How do I resume at same point?

I'm using VLC 1.01.

If I pause a file (say, a DVD) part-way through, and close VLC, is there any way to have it resume play at the same point the next time I run that media file?

I tried creating a bookmark, but unless I did it wrong, it achieved nothing at all. I tried to open the bookmark, but the media file just began playing again from the very start.

Is the ability to resume a feature that already exists, I should I be lodging it in the feature requests?

I really miss this feature. I'm used the Goom Player before (Goom has this feature) but have started using VLC because of the Remote for the iPhone. But if I'm not able to resume it's a really big downside to this player.
