Hi, excuse for my English.
.mkv files are normally played, but sometimes after end of playing VLC "falls". There are no error messages, VLC continues to respond to my operations, but files any more does not play and after closing - vlc.exe continues to hang in processes.
I have disabled subtitles and OSD, and turned on logging.
In case of successful end the last lines in log: Unsuccessful end: What can I make in this situation? In VLC 0.8.6 the same files were played normally. Where now can I download VLC-0.9.10 win32 binary?

I just opened file, seeked to last 5 seconds, after file was ended - exit using "X" button and killed vlc.exe in task manager:

In other time i did same, but all was good, after end of file playing was stopped (like by pressing button "Stop"), and I closed VLC by pressing "CTRL+Q".

I am having the exact same problem.

The main reason is i can't run a playlist without it "freezing" at the end of every .mkv VLC is still technically responding but it doesn't accept any of my clicks, i also have to kill the process as stated above.

Please find a fix to this or fix it.

Yes, I meant it.
Now I use VLC 0.8.6, but I wish to find 0.9.10. If I am not mistaken, the problem has appeared since version 1.0.
There are ways to understand, what occurs? I dont see any errors in log, "Messages" window is empty. Probably, the problem can be solved by changing of settings.
It is strange that it till now have not noticed - probably, for its occurrence especial conditions are necessary.

Hi, I have the exact same problem, I've tested with several mkv files and they all have the same problem. After extensive testing, I think the error will appear with mkv files that HAVE MORE THAN ONE AUDIO TRACK.

I have tested mkv files that only have one audio track and no subtitles or one or more subtitles and the error doesn't happen there, the file finishes playing normally and vlc does not freeze at the end.

I'm having this problem too. I had the same issue in 1.0.1 (it had been a while since I had upgraded before that).

The problem occurs at the end of the video, at which point the video stops (I have it set to repeat by default). After that the Play/Pause button, slider, etc. all stop doing anything. The controls themselves all seem responsive, but the program doesn't do anything in response to clicking/dragging them. After the player is "stuck" like this, everything on the "Video" menu is grayed out. Trying to exit the player only shrinks it to the tray, and choosing exit from the context menu on the tray icon doesn't seem to do anything.

I hadn't realized that it was the two language tracks that was causing a problem until reading this thread, but that definitely seems to be the case. I tried encoding a short video segment from a two-language source with just the first language selected, and I didn't see the problem. I then encoded with the same settings using just the second language and everything was still fine. But when I encoded with both languages, VLC got stuck at the end of the video.

Interestingly, this only happened when I had the first language track selected (and after it locked up, the "Audio Track" sub-menu no longer displayed this track on the list). If I switch to to the second language track before the video finishes, then it repeats like it's supposed to (though it switches back to the first language track upon repeat, so it freezes the second time through unless I switch to the second language track again). I also tried encoding with the order of the language tracks flipped, and it still only had problems on the first language track.

I see this problem with both .mkv files and .ogm files, but I haven't seen it with .mp4 files.

Hopefully someone can figure out how to fix this.

That's a good point which actually might be true.

I got the same behaviour with any MKV file containing several audio tracks, VLC hangs at the end of the playback, nothing can be done and the process must be killed.

100 %, an error appear only if is available more than one audiotrack and at the termination of playing the first audiotrack is selected At first I thought that the problem consists in an audiotrack format, but it depends only on its serial number

So... any news or possible solutions for this problem?

I hate bumping purely on principle. But I am curious, has a fix been found for this issue? It is currently present in the latest version of VLC, and since I rely on playlists with 100% of my usage of VLC, with this current problem is it unusable. Unfortunately I've had to switch to alternative media players until this gets resolved.

Any news on a fix would be highly appreciated. The source of the problem has already been identified. The freezing occurs when the program reaches the end of a multiaudio MKV file. This may be happening with ANY mutliaudio media file, however I have no tested this.

I've searched around the forum, and since it's inundated with all sorts of posts, this was the most relevant I could find pertaining to my situation. I figured it made more sense to bring up this old, yet still relevant post, rather than make a new one.

The provided sample ([CCCP] Manhole...) works totally fine here. Unreproducible bugs are seldom fixed if ever.

The issue is windows only, I think.

vlc 1.0.3, Windows XP SP3, the same problem. A .mkv file with one Audio track works, a file with two audio tracks , playing audio track one hangs at the end of the file.

For track 2 there is started a new thread (tack 1 has already been stopped), which gets no data and no eof. It never dies and so vlc doen't stop playing the file.

Care to retry with the latest bightly build? A bunch of audio-related deadlocks were fixed.

I just installed vlc-1.0.4-rc-20091206-0202-win32.exe, but it's also the same problem. Why does vlc start an a52 decoding threat when both video (track 1 of .mkv file) and the mp2 audio (track 2 of .mkv file) are finished?

Currently, there are no maintainers for Matroska, and neither for Windows stuff. So until someone provides a patch independantly, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

The same, at the end of the movie starts a new thread "Audio - Track2" with the same result.

In the menu, Video is gayed out, Audio only Track two visible. vlc must killed by the task manager.

Something is wrong with this dummy a52 decoder instance. But I cannot reproduce the problem.
