Trouble with A-B Repeat

Well, first of all, I would like to congratulate the developers on putting an A-B repeat function on a media player available on Linux. Thank you very much. It is about this very feature that I am having problems, however.

I run VLC on both XP windows professional and Mandriva Linux with the same results. When I run .mp4, .mov, or .mv4 files, the repeat function works. Again, thanks. When I run .wmv or .mpg files, I get one of two results:
1) When enabled (when choosing the B position after A is selected) it seeks back to the beginning of the file and gets stuck there. It moves slightly forward and goes back. The video image I see is frozen at the beginning of the file. Only the position slider is moving.
2) Same as above only it gets stuck at the A position.

My computer is HP Compaq 6715b with an ATI Radeon X1250 chipset. I think it is worth mentioning that I have tried to work with several versions of Linux. Most of them I have trouble watching videos with this computer. Windows XP gives me no trouble with video, however. I settled on Mandriva Linux because the video is mostly stable. I have noticed that the special windows effects with disable video (with VLC and other players as well). I am guessing that the video capabilities are meager for this graphics chip set.

On windows, the version of VLC I am running is 1.0.1 (Goldeneye)

If the spots are too near to each other, it can happen.

I think the AB repeat stuttering problem with wmv and mpg probably has to do with files that do have indexes. I've noticed that in other programs like GOM player the repeat works for wmv and mpg, so could it be that VLC does not know the time and therefore stutters between frame N and N+1 as opposed to repeating from 00:00:35 to 00:01:00. It does repeat with avi formats and mp4s correctly but unfortunately not with mpgs and wmvs.
