video artifacts in certian file's/formats
Posted: 30 Jul 2009 13:56
vlc media player version 1.0.5
Still in both present in vlc media player version 1.1.0
Still only with ogg, ogv stuff present in vlc media player version 2.0.0
I have discovered a problem with two formats.
rmvb and ogv
Update: rmvb problem is solved in vlc media player version 2.0.0
When playing all goes well.
But when going a little bit back or forward on the time bar.
(Clicking on the new position with the mouse, no dragging.)
The decoders don't seem to take into account that the reference frame has changed.
I see all kinds of block y artefacts, bugs.
When the image gets completely refreshed it's gone.
Which happens after a few seconds in all of the three video's I encounter this problem with.
The video files are:
The Citizen of The Year
http://www.watsonfilms.net/Films.htm
The Abandoned Horror Color
http://www.archive.org/details/Abandonedhorrorcolor
(Choose the Ogg Video version.)
(The problem doesn't happen in the wmv version.)
All of the Dead
http://www.archive.org/details/allofthedead
(Scroll down choose the Ogg Video version.)
Firefox (3.6)doesn't have this problems with ogg video files.
It plays and doesn't gets those artefacts when jumping to a random time.
With the mouse and clicking on the time line.
If it's confirmed, please contact the ffmpeg and Xiph.org (if a good idea, they care about all the implementations of their codecs) and add the bugs to their bug tracking system.
Please fix this bug in the theora codec used.
About the rmvb and ogv codec implementations, please fix the playback issues.
Has anybody else noticed this with (another?) codec?
Update: added newer version where ogg codec still has these problems: 2.0.0
