I have setup an Amino box setup for my friend so that he can stream video files across his LAN, to his flat screen TV which is mounted on the wall. I wrote a script that allows him to easy stream his files and that is working well.
I'm looking for new ways to improve this setup. One ideal goal would be if I could "trick" his OS, in this case XP Pro, into treating this display on the wall that he streams to as a second monitor. Ironically his laptop has a vga connection and so does the display, but for several reasons I'd like to keep the connection IP-based as this offers so many advantages.
I know that vlc allows for the streaming and/or capture of one's desktop.
My question is: is there a way to create a "virtual" secondary display whose contents would be streamed over the LAN to the secondary display using VLC?
This would solve many problems for my friend, and could open up a world of good. Any help would b appreciated. Thanks!
