I had asx streams configured for Win Media Player and this stream played fine:

http://208.96.4.152/9D4529AB069A8ACA/6/E0/live.wmv (you can't play it because it is a point in time stream served from ORB on my computer at home)

I then installed VLC Player configured to play asx/wmv..etc streams. When I log into ORB and play a TV video stream (served from my home computer), VLC will not play the stream. What info do I need to determine as to why VLC won't play the WMV stream? Is it a codec?

First little question: what is the meaning of ORB ?

I have a similar solution with VDR / externremux to play tv live over small banding internet connections. I use ffmpeg / mencoder / VLC 1.x from Debian Repos to create a streamable wmv Container with FAAC and x264 content and this works fine. VLC play these without problems but you should set a little bit cache size aon both side to avoid stuttering.

Open vlc with message window and log level 2 could help.

www.orb.com - it's a software solution for capturing/streaming video/audio from any system running Orb. My PC has a TV tuner card thus Orb allows me to stream live TV anywhere across the net.

I'm getting these errors in VLC:

warning: garbage at input, trying to resync...
ps warning: found sync code
ps warning: garbage at input, trying to resync...
ps warning: found sync code
ps warning: garbage at input, trying to resync...

The stream runs fine in WMP.

Paste MORE debug messages.

I let it run 5 minutes and they were all the same, repeated as shown above.

Are you sure this was a WMV file? VLC thinks it's MPEG-PS, which really means it could not recognize the file format, and -wrongly- fell back to PS just in case.

I'll have to post the question to ORB. The link in my original post shows it's WMV but I don't know how to prove it.

Thing is, for some reason, VLC does not recognize the file as ASF.

The link return 404.

Any updated testing on this?
