Mpeg2 Playback Issue

Postby fret » 13 Jul 2009 06:47

I have a digital tuner on my PC that I record TV with and the resultant TS file contains mpeg2 that VLC plays back fine. Now when I process it down to mpg (trimming ads in the process) using HDTV2MPEG, VLC (1.0.0) can't play the mpg file anymore. The stream is not re-encoded at all just cropped and saved as mpg.

So I posted a test clip here:
http://sydneyband.com.au/video/Test.mpg (4.3mb)

That doesn't play on my computer using VLC but plays fine in Media Player Classic. If one of the devs could have a look at that file in VLC and see whats up I'd appreciate it. For reference, my PC is 2.2ghz athlon, 2gb ram, windows xp sp2.

I may get around to compiling up the code and having a look myself at some point but it'll be 100 times faster for the developers that are familiar with the code base to check it out.

Yep, confirmed, same here.

And this file is playing fine in MPlayer.

fine with VLC and --demux ffmpeg
Is there a way of setting that via the preferences UI?

I had a look around and couldn't find anything specific to ffmpeg in the demuxer's settings.

So it's looking like I should go and check this out myself? No takers?

Preferences->all->Input/codecs->Demuxers and should be able to have control of it.
