Rpex Codec?

I have a few movies that require a codec called 'rpex', I think its an uncommon or new one. Obviously Videolan doesn't support it, can't even find the codec, can anyone help? Thanks alot.

Hi there,
I got an rpex installer with an rpex video file, I can post it if the administrator gives his "ok".
The problem is that the video still doesn't play. It would be really cool if the vlc team could check the installers contents
and might be able to implement rpex support into one of their future releases. Should I upload the installer?

I think I maybe had the same one, some videos would play; some not. Maybe for their sake (admin), you could upload it; at least they could get a look at it.. thanks.

Hi again,
I have just uploaded the installer at megaupload. I hope the vlc team can check the files inside the installer and maybe
the can find a solution for our video problem.
My video files have sound but I don't want to listen to my movies
Note: This Installer MIGHT be malware, I just don't know. So please be careful
I have deleted the installer because it appears to be malware.
PS: There is an extra command line based encoder included but everytime I try to use it it says something about memory problems......

Yeah (thanks), I had the same one; but did get some video to play (just not all files). I guess you can blame good ol 'Microshits' for the malware bit / influence... I mean just look to 'windows media player', you'd never know it was phoning home to momma everytime you opened it unless you had a descent firewall. Also DiVX (the official site even) is doing this with their codec and player now. I deleted the video I had related to the Rpex codec in frustration, but maybe it would be better served if you could upload that video, or a link to it, let the awesome 'Videolan team' have a look at that???

Hi Guys,
Got the same problem. Seems that RPEX is a command line ONLY encoding and decoding tool. Checking the readme file shows two commands:
Encoding:
RPenc.exe -mode [enc] "inputfile" "outputfile"
Decoding:
RPenc.exe -mode [dec] "inputfile" "outputfile"
(in and out files without " " and full extension e.g. "blabla.avi")
I tried it but i always got a MEMORY ALLOCATION ERROR. Anyone else tried that way ?
Tried 2 hours yesterday with Win2000 and fresh WinXP with VirtualPC but always RAM error... i hate that "codec"...
Please VLC Team, take a look into that codec. Perhaps you can find the problem.

I think this is only malware and i would never run that .exe
So i recommend you both to clean your install from contaminations.
Now i'm not sure it's malware but there is to little info about that codec for it to be real.

Hmm, I had a GUI for windows that worked with a few videos; just not all videos. Agreed man, would say there is some malware, however; alot of em do now unfortunately. It is a valid codec produced by some of the new European video cameras according to a tech at 'Best Buy', unfortunately the drivers etc. only come with the Camera(s). Just too bad Videolan didn't support it, as it's getting slightly more popular. Again, if you have a video requiring the codec post it for the techs to look at guys.

Hi again,
I'm sorry but I can't upload a video because it's too big.
But I analyzed it with a tool (sorry, forgot the name) and it seems that the Rpex codec is somehow related
to the divx stuff.
@niglin
You had a gui for the encoder? do you know where to get it?
Can you ask the guy from best buy for a specific camcorder that uses the rpex codec so we can visit the
company's website and legally download the software from their support website (I hope they HAVE a support section
)
PS: I often thought about just deleting the movies but I am VERY stubborn and I won't give up unless the movies work fine

Shib.:
Was just in at 'Best Buy' again today, and asked my friend about this... He told me he was unable to get the codec / driver as they do not carry these models of camera, and doesn't know where you could DL the pertinent stuff. SOL for now; until the team gets a video clip I guess. FYI I don't have the GUI for windows that was bundled with the video, as I gave up on / deleted it.

That sounds interesting.
Could you please tell us how you managed to do that?
Can you upload your version of the codec or even better, make some screenshots as a tutorial?
Kind regards

I had an avi file blabla [RPEX2.1].avi it doesn't play the video only the sound
This is the info I get on various players:
zoom player Home Max v7.0 says: format avi, divx5, mpeg layer-3 decoder.
Gspot says:
Code: Select all
video code DX50 name DivX 5.x/6.x
Audio: code 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3
info 48000Hz 128 kb/s tot , Joint Stereo

Audio MPEG Layer-3 55 128kbps
Thats it
my text states:
RPEnc.exe -mode [enc|dec] <input filename> <output filename>
The settings inside the file settings.ini are automatically read
at execution time.
Code: Select all
example:
----------
Encoding
RPEnc.exe -mode enc in_file out_file
Encodes input video file in_file to RPEX and writes the results to the file out_file.
Decoding
RPEnc.exe -mode dec in_file out_file
Decodes input video file in_file from RPEX and writes results to the file out_file.
----------
This is the rpex codec installer my source RPEXInstallerV2.2.zip:
rapidshare.com
depositfiles.com
uploading.com
I cannot find any info that say this file has rpex codecs in it
but the rpexinstaller was with this movie
I even looked in the registery for rpex the only thing I found
was info of the the folder and contents of RPEX Video Codec V2.2
there is no ax, acm, or ocx for rpex like other codec on my comp
is this a real codec? or does this installer just some
adware, malware, some hacking thing?
