Playing media from mediatomb

This is a really newbie question and forgive my lack of knowledge - How can I use VLC to play from a mediatomb UPNP media server serving flac files? I'm fairly aware (but could be wrong) this isn't sorted in 0.99 but I've tried the various nightlies for 1.0/1.1 and no luck either. Is this supported?
