VLC: Default Aspect Ratio Change?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

On Linux at least, the option is available here:
Preferences > Video > Force Aspect Ratio. Try to set it as "16:9" (without quotes).

If you can't find this option, maybe you can find the vlcrc config file which you can modify: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=60891
