can´t play dvd

hello,
i have a problem with playing a dvd i recently bought... the only part i can see is the sequence before the appearing of the menu. after clicking the button "play video" the player (version 0.99) does nothing.
if i try to open a file directly (e.g. double clicking on vts_01_1.vob in the windows explorer [*.vob-files are associated with the vlc player]) an error message appears "failore reading file".
is that part of a new copy protection? will i be able to watch the (legal!) dvd?

best regards,
reimar

i have now tried to play the dvd on another pc, it worked fine. no problems at all with the vlc player (even with an earlier version, 0.8 i think). there is another software for dvd playing installed - but that doesn´t have any effect on the vlc player, does it?

best regards,
