VLC crashes when reading from firewire source

Postby AndreasB » 02 Dec 2004 09:50

I am using VLC 0.8.1 on Windows XP with a Miglia Director's Cut connected through Firewire.

When I use the videosource (Miglia box) with other programs (i.e. Microsoft Movie Maker), there is no problems.

When I on the other hand, choose the device as a video capturing device, (It is shown after using refresh as "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR), it is not shown a s a possible sound source, which it is, VLC shows the picture, but within seconds coloured static in square boxes begin to appear, as well as sounds not from the capturing device, and within fifteen seconds VLC crashes.

Any advice? Sudgestions? Workarounds?

Update

I have tried VLC with a Firewire DV cam, same problem.

I have also tried a pure camera (iSight), no problem.

My theory is that VLC gets confused by the combined audio and video stream from the Firewire devices.

Any comments?

Same problem here - the output becomes partly green before videolan rizeses all the time and then finally crashes.

VideoLan 0.7.1 worked all fine for me, though.

I'm having exactly the same problem here too. The sound comes through, accompanied by noise when the squares come up.

The DV camera works fine in everthing except VLC 0.8.1 on two computers (both XP).

The video for VLC 0.8.0 works fine with no problems at all, but there's no sound. I can only imagen that it has something do do with the change:
* Fixed DV and MPEG (WinTV PVR 250/350) support in the dshow input
