Bad sound using VLC, not with M$ player

Hi,

I have this file, you know the one with the mose singing to a piece of cheese. The file is OK, cos I play it on a PC with no prob, even with VLC.
The prob is, with my second PC, I get a very bad quality sound when playing this file with VLC. I have no problem playing the file with the Microsoft Media Player. I tried with other video files, I get the same problem : a lot of noise.
Could it be a configuration problem? I've done a few clean installations, in vain.
Can someone help me?

try removing vlc preferences file (or resetting preferences with the gui). Try reducing volume in vlc or anywhere else there is a volume control that affect the playback. If that don't work, try opening the messages window while playing and post any messages there here

You could try upgrading your audio driver, and directx.
You could also try the waveout audio module instead of the directx one (this can be changed in the preferences).

I have the same problem

I am using Windows 98 first edition, and I am using a Soyo motherboard with a VIA built in soundcard and I am experienceing the same problems, the audio is low then medium and sounds choppy. I updaded Direct X and no luck. My motherboard is outdated and I believe I have the latest audio drivers available.
