I have been unable to use vlc on filenames that contain hebrew characters. Anyone with a similar problem?

does this happen when you past the filename into the "open file" part of the open dialog? Does it also happen if you use the "browse" feature to select the name? Btw, handling international filenames is sort of complicated. We are working on it, but it's sort of slow progress.

Still not

I cant play a movie if I use "→" in the filename.
I believe vlc cant use all the 256 ascii chars.

This is partly solved in the next version of VLC. I'm not sure if it's also fixed for mms links though. It would probably be a bit tougher.

i'm wondering if there possibly is a RTL/bidi issue here that isn't handled....

How did you add this file to VLC?
Did you DnD it, or used "Open..." or "Open File" ???

I have no idea. I notice the same file isn't working on VLC OSX either, and that is quite unusual. We never had much trouble with filenames on OSX. that's why i'm wondering if some sort of bidi issue is also occuring.

These problems have been fixed recently - but only on Unicode-capable Windows versions
(NT,2000,XP,Vista)

Please try:
