Playlist and Subtitles | attach subs to play list items

Is VLC capable of loading subtitles with a playlist?

E.g. I am watching a movie on 2 cd which requires subtitles. I have CD1 and CD2 in the playlist. CD1 starts and I load CD1 subtitles. But when CD2 starts I have pause and load CD2 subtitles.

Is there a way to have it seamlessly load the subtitles with each playlist ltem?

No, I don't think it knows how to do that.

Hi,

Total newbie when it comes to using most features within VLC.
But one feature I do love is the smooth "playlist" feature.
So did I read correctly that one CAN NOT have subtitles selected AND continual play within VLC? :(

So if I have several videos, 2 or 3, I would have to return the CPU and the VLC
to select "sub" each time a new entry started? :?:
If that is not the case, then how can I get it "keep subs on".
Any help is appreciated! :!:

Additionally if this is not a current feature within VLC, how can I recommend it? :D

Well, usually 1 sub == 1 vid.

Hi again,

Thanks for your post.

I noted you said 1 sub = 1 vid

Does that mean that somewhere within the menu/options
I would need to select an option that will clarify to VLC that
IF there are 3 vids in a playlist,
THEN select somewhere within the VLC option/menu that 3 sub files (like/.sub??) should be pulled at a 1 to 1 ratio?

thanks again..

How I do it is:

name each video file something like
-
this is a film (2008) gary Glitter CD1.avi
this is a film (2008) gary Glitter CD2.avi
-
name the sub files appropriately
-
this is a film (2008) gary Glitter CD1.srt
or
this is a film (2008) gary Glitter CD1.sub
this is a film (2008) gary Glitter CD1.idx

do NOT include the sub files in the playlist, and VLC should pick up the
correct sub files automatically from the names if they are in the same directory and as
long as you have not changed the default switch (somewhere) to tell it not to do this.
(in advanced settings subtitles/osd)

it also seems to be able to cope with (add) multiple files if the
correspondence is high enough
this is a film (2008) gary Glitter CD1 en.srt
this is a film (2008) gary Glitter CD1 de.srt
this is a film (2008) gary Glitter CD1 es.srt
again one would not add these to the playlist, just the directory. When it
swaps to the next file in the playlist it will look for the subs itself. There
may be a way to tell it which to put at no. 1, I am not sure how. I suspect it
simply loads the srts alphabetically by file name.

If you are using sub/idx they are all in one file anyway.

At least this is what I remember from when I used stored playlists, it certainly works
for manual interactive playlists
