Subtitle issues

Hey all. I use VLC primarily to watch Asian programs that come with English subtitles. Often times I get a problem where the subtitles for a song playing in the background overlap the the subs of the dialog. Granted the subs author recommends people use Media Player classic with the VOB sub pack, but I don't believe that to be an option since I'm running a Mac. This problem also occurs on my Windows PC.
Here's a snippet of the srt file:
566
00:40:05,342 --> 00:40:06,242
<i>{\a6}Where are you?</i>

567
00:40:05,330 --> 00:40:06,240
Take care of yourself.
I think the issue here is the {\a6}...

{\a6} is not part of any subtitle specification...

Complain to the author.

1.0? Is this available as a nightly build? Thanks for getting back to me.
