Metadata not saving for video files

I'm running VLC 0.9.8 on OS 10.5.6, and, for whatever reason, every time I try to edit and save metadata from a video file (either .mpg or .avi), VLC'll keep that information for that session, but once I restart VLC, all that metadata is seemingly lost. Oddly enough, I can save audio metadata just fine (both MP3 and AAC).

Is this a known issue, is there something I can do about this, or is there something I've just been doing wrong? Thanks!

Ditto, confirmed. I'm using 0.9.9 in Windows XP SP3.

I can't set comments to AVI files either using Windows Explorer, through the properties dialog (it's grayed-out here; read-only), nor using xplorer² through the ALT-Z dialog. I was hoping that VLC would allow me to be able to add this metadata, but I'm experiencing exactly the issue nckswt is...

But my motive in adding such metadata is to search & sort by it and if my file browser can't support that, I won't know what to do... I'm unable to see whether xplorer² can at least read meta-comments from AVI files until I can actually set them somehow. Any suggestions for solutions are very welcome...

In the meantime, I hope this bug is addressed. :-|

Well, you can't save metadata in ALL muxers, and AVI is doubtfully a good muxer for metadata.

I see the same error when I try to save meta data.
I'm using VLC 1.0.3 with a Mac on Snow Leopard.

Advice please!
