Canon HF10 *.m2ts or *.mts files do not play - sample

Hi,
I have a Canon HF10 and have been recording lots of footage at the highest setting 17 mbps I believe. The clips do not play in VLC 0.9.8a. I tried this on 3 different XP boxes and a Mac running Leopard.
Here is a sample clip, 13.3 MB. -
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/11004/200811 ... berty.m2ts (uploading now, should be done in a few minutes)
Would be awesome to see this work!
Edit - By do not play I mean that they open and I can see a frame but it jumps most of them and I only see 1 frame every couple of seconds.

Try to deactivate the loopfilter

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I set the FFMpeg loop filter setting to "All" and then saved and restarted VLC. The video still plays the same.
Does the sample video work for you?

Where do I get 1.0?

VLC 1.0.x is not released yet. Nightlies server (nightlies.videolan.org) is down ATM. So compile it from source, or wait for a build/official build to be released.
Arite.

Thanks for the reply. Is anyone getting this sample clip to play in 0.9.8a?

I just realized I should have posted this in the general VLC issues forum. Can someone please move this?
Thanks

The clip works fine form me on Ubuntu using VLC 0.9.8a running on a ThinkPad T61 laptop. I didn't make any special changes to settings as far as I recall, but I installed several components from Ubuntu suggested on Ubuntu forums before I got it to work. On the other hand, it doesn't work at all on my much beefier CentOS desktop. It crashes after about a single frame.
What system are you using? I'm trying to get VLC working on a mac and windows as well, and basically decide which one works best for my purposes. VLC 0.9.8a didn't work on my windows laptop at all (also ThinkPad T61), and apparently it's a bit choppy on an iMac (I haven't seen it to compare, but I'm getting a mac tomorrow). I see slight choppiness on longer mts videos on Ubuntu, which may be video card related. I noticed a few bugs, and zoom doesn't seem to work very well, but overall the Ubuntu playback is pretty nice.
I'm going to try to build the current 1.0 development version on linux, but I immediately ran into a problem that the configure script doesn't exist. Argh!

Bootstrap first!

Bootstrap worked, thanks! Actually the wiki has nice step by step instructions on how to build. However, the current development version is actually more choppy (and less stable) on my ThinkPad Ubuntu laptop than 0.9.8a. I'll experiment with the build options.

--enable-release?

Thanks for the suggestions. I had --enable-release. I used pretty much the same options that the wiki gives as a typical configure command:
./configure --enable-x11 --enable-xvideo --disable-gtk --enable-sdl --enable-avcodec --enable-avformat --enable-swscale --enable-mad --enable-libdvbpsi --enable-a52 --enable-libmpeg2 --enable-dvdnav --enable-faad --enable-vorbis --enable-ogg --enable-theora --enable-faac --enable-mkv --enable-freetype --enable-fribidi --enable-speex --enable-flac --enable-live555 --enable-caca --enable-skins --enable-skins2 --enable-alsa --disable-kde --enable-qt4 --enable-ncurses --enable-release
Then I distclenaed and did a configure without any options. I didn't notice any difference in quality or reliability between the two builds. The executable was definitely rebuilt and reinstalled.
Is there any way to find out what the pre-built 0.9.8a version I am using was built with?

Hi everyone!
Any idea when this is going to get pushed into the latest stable release?
Currently there is no player besides the one that ships with the camera. Which Canon only gives a license for on 1 computer. Basically I can only watch these videos on 1 computer.

I have a Sony SR-11. Its included software (Picture Motion Browser) plays (as does your included sofware) but Picture Motion Browser does not have fast forward, frame by frame, slow motion, etc. Does Canon's software? Is it available for purchase? Thanks.
