VLC w/ EPG and Lirc

Hi,

I want to setup VLC as an IPTV player. First of all, I would like to use EPG capabilities in order to show EPG data (at least some current program info) on top of the video image. Also, I would like to setup Lirc to receive commands from the remote control and sent them to VLC. If most of the commands are easy to setup, I'm now stuck in configuring direct channel access, like pressing the numeric buttons (it must accept at least two digits for the channel number) in order to directly go to the correct channel.
Anyone knows how to setup all this?
