Playing dvds menu with overlay layer

I've created a dvd with Dvd Studio Pro and I need to play it with Vlc.
The structure of the dvd is the same: First start is a video clip; after that comes a menu (with a photoshop overlay layer for buttons) that allows you to replay the previous video clip or play other video clips. If you choose to replay it, obiouvsly it play again the first clip, but when the menu comes again the overlay layer has disappeared! There's no way to select the right button to press! It happens ONLY the second time, after you replay the first clip (the first time the layer is visible and there's no problem in choosing the buttons. Any suggestions to solve the problem?
