I have version 0.9.8a.
when i am playing a file shared on a network computer(LAN) and if that computer goes down (shuts down), vlc becomes non responsive it gives error message and keep giving them, will go to full screen mode, the control bar appears(the one in full screen mode).

Hi,

I doubt any version of VLC will ever fix this, since its not really a player issue.

The local network that you have established is not really "shared" in the sense that both computers have the file. You merely have access to it and if the other computer is shut down, there is no way to establish a connection to get permission to stream their video.

Sorry,

Geoff.

i dont have the problem with other computer shutting down, problem is vlc becomes non responsive, if file is no longer available then it should just giver error message once, instead of keep giving them. That instance of vlc becomes useless (nonresponsive).

That's a bug or rather a limitation of the operating system. If the system returned a fatal error when VLC attempts to read, it would just abort "nicely", but in your case the operating system freezes VLC instead of error'ing out.

There is nothing we can do about this.

i don't think OS has got anything to do with this, application(vlc) keeps on accessing a resource that is no longer available like in a loop

I agree as the program is not at fault and the drive ahs failed instead.

Normally happens when you unplug any drive from the program using it. Windows media player has the same problem.
