feature regression in v0.9

I just recently upgraded VLC 0.8.6f to v0.9.8 on my mac today and found a new annoyance in an otherwise delightful app.
In v0.8, if you were to add a folder to the playlist which contained 'un-playable' files in it, VLC would try to play the file and then popup a warning message (where you could check a box to stop future popups) and VLC would kindly skip the file and continue playing the next file in the playlist.
In v0.9, when VLC encounters a file that it cannot play (such as a text file) it displays a warning message icon the in the playlist and halts playback at that point. A manual playlist advance is required to skip the track, and you must hit the play button again to continue.
Obviously here, the desired functionality would be to have v0.9 mimic the behavior in v0.8 when this occurrence transpired.
