Support for i586 (AMD K6-2)

I can't get version VLC 0.9.6 (Windows) working on a K6-2 400 MHz. If I open a media file with VLC => crash.
Is it because VLC doesn't support such old processors anymore? The latest versions of ffdshow (DirectShow implementation of ffmpeg) and Media Player Classic Homecinema don't work because they don't support < i686 processors anymore.
