v0.8.6 vs. v0.9.x question: Skipping ahead in a movie?

Whenever I skipped ahead (or back) in 0.8.6. the movie play resumed instantaneously at the position I clicked to on the "skip" bar below the movie. In 0.9.x, it takes seconds for the video to appear, as if it is waiting for the next key frame before it starts displaying the movie. Happens with H.264 as well as Divx 6.x and xvid movies. Is there a way to turn off this "feature" in 0.9.x?

Speaking of turning of "features" in 0.9.x, there's another one -- in 0.8.6, you could resize VLC at will. Now it's tied to the size of the movie (similar to Quicktime). Any way to turn that off?

Thx in advance

VOB skipping is slow?

Anyway, about the other thing, you can still resize your VLC.

Very much so. Something must have changed in 0.9.x, since this happens for all formats and all encoders/streams. Do you know what?

Also, on the resizing, is there a preference setting to "untie" the size of the VLC "container" from the size of the movie? I typically size my container as wide as the screen allows to get more granularity when clicking the "skip" bar (BTW: what's the official name of that bar below?)
