Problems with H264 stream

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with a H264 stream from a network camera. After mostly 1-5s the video freezes and the following log is displayed:

Code: Select all

main warning: late picture skipped (918000) main warning: late picture skipped (1660000) main warning: late picture skipped (1535000) avcodec error: more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow ?) main warning: late picture skipped (7012000) main warning: late picture skipped (6887000) main warning: late picture skipped (6762000)
During the stream my processor has a occupancy rate of under 10%. I got the same error using another computer, too.

Certainly I have searched for ways to solve the problem, but got no real solution. One way is to increase the cache, but for my task this is too much delay. Another way is to add "--no-drop-late-frames" to the command line and a line to the code, but I don't want to compile my own VLC yet and the command alone handles only the warning. -> see this thread

My question is now, how can I eliminate the error? Do you know of some ways other than changing the code?

Thanks,
Dalamaar

To keep this thread alive, some more information which may be useful.

If I use MPEG4 stream, this problem occurs not regularly, but there is always a delay of 3s, which is too much. But if the problem occurs, the log says still "warning[...]computer too slow", while processor usage is under 10%.

If you get access to the camera by using a browser, you can start an ActiveX player. This player plays the stream with a delay of <1s and without notable frame dropping/skipping.

I'll be grateful for any suggestions or comments.

Greetings,
Dalamaar

€: I forgot, I'm using VLC 0.9.6, but I also tried 0.8.6i.
