have sound but no video

When I try to play a video on any player i have no sound, i also tried the latest version of vlc, also no sound. i have got new k-lite codec pack installed and updated my ati catalyst drivers but still no use. I mostly play .avi and .wmv files

Same here i get sound but no video.The file plays in mp classic and 11.

Codecs packs are not used by VLC.

What are the codecs in the file etc.? When playing in VLC go to "Tools >> Codec Information...".

Yes.

AFAIK the Windows VC-1 (WVC1) codec is not fully implemented yet into VLC.

Try with the latest nightly build of 1.0.0-git:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win ... 1210-0005/

If you don't want to install it (probably wise) download e.g. the *.zip version (no need for the debug one) and extract it to a folder, run vlc.exe etc.
