Trouble playing video on external TV monitor

Hey,

So, I just updated to the new 0.9.4 VLC player. Previously I was using the 0.8.6.

However, now when I hook up my laptop via S-Video cable to the TV that I use as a second monitor and try to play video on it (I've specifically been trying to run .avi), all I get is a black box in the VLC window with the audio running.

The video runs fine on my regular screen, just not on the TV. I tried messing around with the settings, but I couldn't figure out any way to fix it.

Anyone got a solution for me, or should I just stick with 0.8.6?

Thanks preemptively.

I just tried the same thing with my laptop (PowerBook G4) and a plain MPEG file, and had no problems. Alas, I can't shed any other light on the situation, since I don't know anything about the code differences between the two versions.

Have you tried other file formats besides .avi? AVI is basically just a container format, so it's hard to imagine a scenario where it would be the problem -- but if it were just .avi that didn''t work, that would be important information. Also, it'd be good to know what OS you're running.

Usually, it is just that your graphic card doesn't support Overlay on external screens. Just deactivate it in preferences.
