I used to be able to use VLC to play XM radio streams with the 0.8.x versions.

Not only does 0.9.x not play this stream anymore, after attempting to play the stream, VLC will crash when I try to close it!

Here is what is logged in 0.9.4: WHile 0.8.6i gives this (please note it writes to the same logfile, so don't be confused by the "0.9.4" in the logfile path):

Is no one interested in this?

I am willing to do any tests necessary .

I have not received any spam after signing up this way but you can use a disposable email address instead.

For debugging it may be useful to get the stream URL directly by using the XMOnlineTest program. AFAIK this program was an early proof-of-concept and was abandoned by the author in favor of a full-fledged player app. I have used it for years, though, since it allows me to use the media player of my choice to play the stream (which until recently was VLC 0.8.x).

I haven't been able to find an active download link for it so I uploaded it here:

I hope one of the devs takes an interest in this. It's sad to see something which worked in previous VLC versions suddenly stop working in the "improved" 0.9 series.

Is the issue. Why temporarily unavailable ?

That is strange. I don't know why it's giving that message - I notice 0.8.6 doesn't. How can I find out more?

Is there any meaning to this: Why is it skipping the entry?

I have made some progress on this -- it seems that the new VLC doesn't like the format of the playlist file that XM Radio uses

Here is a sample file I have made, which follows the format of XM Radio's playlist files (but it links to freely available test streams instead of XM's stream):

Note that it will play a different stream depending on VLC version used. VLC 0.8.6 will play an audio stream from the University of Virginia while 0.9.6 will play a video of something about the Pittsburgh Stealers.

The contents of the file look like this: Can someone from the VLC team please figure out why this file behaves differently on 0.8.6 and 0.9.6? The behavior of 0.8.6 is the desired one in this case.

Apparently VLC thinks XM Radio streams are ads and skips them. :/

So much time I spent on such a simple problem. I have to agree with Lotesdelere. This option should be off by default, and/or fixed so that it doesn't run up false positives like this.

Sopke too soon. It *almost* starts playing but then complains that it can't play format "wmas"... So it looks like I have to go back to 0.8.6i, which has no problems playing this stream.
